As a dedicated vegetarian, these kind of movies are hilarious. Those craving for meat are indeed screwed up in the head.
No, seriously, this movie was fun to watch. I'm aware this is a remake and I haven't seen the original. I do however enjoy the work of the Soska sisters and wanted to see how they pull this one off. As I expected, they did a solid job. Not a masterpiece but certainly a far better movie than many more famous horror movies that are currently box office hits. Now I have a rabid craving for some vegetarian dish.

Whilst not perfect by any means it's not as bad as some of the one star reviews its garnered here. The film tips its hat to Cronenberg. Theres even a funny homage to his other movie Dead Ringers. There's far worse contemporary horror films floating about than this.

Prosto, nakon čitanja Pekića osećate se nedoraslim i inferiornim da bilo šta napišete, a da to ne izgleda kao puka trivijalnost. Druga stvar – ako volite samu književnost, iz poštovanja prema istoj osećaćete i neku vrstu straha od sopstvene nespremnosti i nesposobnosti da odgovorite zadatku predstavljanja neke knjige koja uživa status kultne i koja svojim kvalitetom, a naročito kvalitetom onoga koju je napisao, podjednako privlači pozitivne kritike od strane samih kritičara, ali i od čitalaca. U eri interneta, kada se biografija svake javne ličnosti može pojaviti pred vama posle samo nekoliko klikova, smatramo suvišnim detaljnije iznošenje suvoparnih biografskih podataka. Ukratko, Borislav Pekić bio je književnik, dramski pisac i scenarista, rođen u Podgorici. Takođe bio je istinski. disident, osuđen od strane komunističkog režima na 15 godina zatvora, a oslobođen je posle 5 godina, pomilovanjem. Golgota kroz koju je prolazio tokom života odražava svo ludilo društva u kojem se, na njegovu nesreću, našao. Bio je dopisni član SANU i jedan od osnivača Demokratske stranke 1990. godine. Neka od njegovih najpoznatijih dela su Zlatno runo, Godine koje su pojeli skakavci, Vreme čuda, Kako upokojiti vampira, kao i Besnilo po kome je možda i najpoznatiji među širim čitalačkim krugovima, a koje predstavlja deo trilogije prožete fantastikom. Činjenica je da je Besnilo jedan od romana kojima je Pekić napravio izlet u žanrovsku književnost. Iako je ovo roman koji izdavači etiketiraju kao triler/horor, daleko od toga da je ovo jedan od onih romana koji bi, zahvaljujući sopstvenom dometu i (ne)kvalitetu, mogao da se nađe na kiosku kao poklon uz neki lifestyle magazin namenjen dokonim domaćicama i pseudo-intelektualcima koji će, družeći se s knjigom u pauzi između tv sapunice i rijalija, sebe smatrati elitom i prosvećenim delom društva. Ovde je žanrovska odrednica iskorišćena kao sredstvo da se ispriča nešto. A to nešto je veliko, višeslojno, kompleksno. Upravo postojanje ovakvih romana poput Besnila je i jasan pokazatelj svog besmisla koje se ogleda u konzervativnom shvatanju, od strane uštogljenog dela tzv. akademske kritike, da je žanrovska književnost samo zabava za široke narodne mase. Već posle prvih pročitanih poglavlja Besnila ono na šta pomislite je da pisac raspolaže sa neverovatnom količinom informacija o temi o kojoj piše. U jednoj od svojih izjava piščeva supruga je tvrdila da je Borislav raspolagao sa mnogo više informacija o temi koju je izabrao kao centralnu za neko od njegovih dela, nego što je to želeo da pokaže. Time shvatate da on nije imao, za neke pisce, karakterističnu crtu egocentrične potrebe za nekom vrstom samopromocije u očima čitalaca, ili bar ne naročito naglašenu. I pored prethodno napisanog o poklanjanju naročite pažnje od strane pisca naizgled nebitnim detaljima – u ovom konkretnom romanu: redu vožnje metroa i aviona, načinu organizacije aerodromskih službi i planom aerodroma – čitalac će garantovano od samog početka biti uvučen u radnju iz koje neće moći da se izbavi do poslednje pročitane stranice. I nekoliko dana potom. Isto tako, Pekić dovodi u sklad mnogobrojna filozofska pitanja koja se provlače kroz roman, s jedne strane i, s druge strane, održavanje, za ovaj žanr karakteristične, konstantne napetosti kojoj ste prinuđeni da se predate. Možda upravo na ovom jednostavnom primeru uspešnog koegzistiranja, naizgled, nepomirljivih krajnosti se i ogleda sva genijalnost i umeće pisca. Radnja romana je smeštena u londonski aerodrom Hitrou pogođen epidemijom mutiranog virusa besnila, kao produkta neuspelog eksperimentisanja tokom procesa genetskog inženjeringa. Spletom nesrećnih okolnosti, dakle, pukom slučajnošću zaraza je pogodila baš londonski aerodrom na kome su se, isto tako slučajno našli akteri romana, ni ne sluteći u kojoj meri su im životni putevi međusobno uslovljeni. Obožavatelji Reda, čak i ako nisu policajci, drže da je svet logička tvorevina, uređena po nekom planu po kome isti uzroci izazivaju iste posledice. Zločin dovodi do istrage, istraga do kazne. Što se to događa najčešće ali ne uvek, po nekima, ponekad ali ne često, po drugima – ne remeti logičku lepotu plana. Plan je O. K. Samo ga se događaji zbog nečeg ne drže. Većina, u stvari, baš i ne liči na nešto što je osobito pametno zamišljeno. Ako i jeste, ne ponaša se po redu letenja logike. Za mnoge se slobodno može reći da su posledica magične lutrije, kojom caruje Slučaj s ludačkom kapom na glavi. Besnilo predstavlja apokaliptičnu viziju tzv. civilizovanog sveta koji, u interakciji sa kriznom situacijom, skida sa sebe sve maske ispod koje se milenijumima unazad krije ništa drugo do onaj praiskonski životinjski instikt za pukim preživljavanjem u kome vlada jedino zakon jačeg. Pod pritiskom opasnosti od smrtonosnog virusa čitav aerodrom – stavljen pod karantin sa mnogobrojnim putnicima u njemu – predstavlja civilizaciju u malom. Ta ista civilizacija, uljuljkana iluzijom o sopstvenoj sigurnosti proistekloj iz zablude o njenoj intelektualnoj (i svakoj drugoj) nadmoći nad prirodom preko noći odbacuje apstraktne konstrukte poput pripadnosti naciji, veri, rasi, nastale kao posledica vekovima vršene indoktrinacije i okreće se isključivoj borbi za lični opstanak. Čak i u nekim pojedinačnim slučajevima kada pomislimo da je porodica osnovni nukleus, nedeljiv i nepobediv, neki od likova romana nas ubede da pod plaštom borbe za dobrobit svojih voljenih se zapravo kriju sebični interesi i nemoć tih istih pojedinaca da se izbore sa sobom samima. Solidarnosti, a lojalnosti naročito – ni u tragovima. Pekić je ovim romanom otvorio mnogobrojna pitanja. Jedan od osnovnih jeste i antagonistički stav čoveka prema prirodi. U tom smislu, napravljena je paralela između ljudske evolucije i evolucije „civilizacije u malom“ na aerodromu. Taj proces evolucije teče od saznanja o nemoći nad prirodnim pojavama i posledičnog šoka, preko prilagođavanja čoveka sopstvenom okruženju, do kranjeg prilagođavanja prirode njegovim interesima. Ovo je ništa drugo nego odraz čovekovog arogantnog stava o sopstvenoj superiornosti a Pekićev nacistički naučnik u romanu – koji je svojim neuspelim eksperimentom uzrokovao krizu na aerodromu – predstavlja otelotvorenje danas preovlađujuće ideje o neophodnosti podjarmljivanja prirode i njenih resursa sebičnim interesima u funkciji tehnološkog prosperiteta ljudskog roda koji optimisti nazivaju civilizacijom. Oštra piščeva kritika totalitarizma, svih ideologija i, uopšte, svih „krupnih“ tema – u kojima pojedinci, iz osećaja sopstvene nesigurnosti, ugroženosti i inferiorizma traže sopstveno mesto pod suncem i potrebu za samopotvrđivanjem – ogleda se baš kroz neke karikaturalnene i parodične epizode u romanu, a koje uvek predstavljaju efikasno sredstvo za obračun sa ovakvim pojavama. Besnilo predstavlja čitavu galeriju likova čiji se životi međusobno uslovljavaju i prepliću a svaki od tih likova je kao deo jednog velikog mozaika u kome svaki od njih predstavlja neizostavni deo celine. Jedan od segmenata u kome je Pekić pokazao svoj talenat je predstavljanje mnogobrojnih likova na takav način da se svaki od njih pred vama prikazuje u jasnoj slici, svaki sa sopstvenim osobenostima, svojom pričom, životom i profilom ličnosti da ne postoji mogućnost da se u bilo kom trenutku tokom čitanja relativno obimnog romana izgubite u svim tim imenima ili budete prinuđeni da se vraćate par stranica unazad kako bi se podsetili „koja je priča“ nekog od likova. Ponovo se vraćamo na početak članka i naglašavamo da je zaista teško napisati bilo šta o samom Pekiću ili njegovom stvaralaštvu, a da u vama ne ostane osećaj nedorečenosti. Pre svega, prikazom nekih od osnovnih motiva Besnila, želeli smo da bar malo doprinesemo da neke mlađe generacije čitalaca, možda nedovoljno upoznate sa ovim piscem, načine prvi korak i upoznaju se sa Borislavom Pekićem. A Besnilo je možda i prava karta za ulaz u svet njegovog stvaralaštva iz koga ćete teško izaći, a postoji opasnost i da sve što naknadno pročitate poredite sa delima iz opusa ovog sjajnog pisca, a to već može predstavljati problem. They might be rabid horror fans, but the Soska sisters were a poor choice for directors of the first-ever remake of a David Cronenberg movie. Cronenberg is a true innovator of horror, having directed more than a few genuine classics; the Soska Sisters, or 'Twisted Twins' as they like to market themselves) have one decent film to their name(s. American Mary - the bulk of their output ranging from the mediocre (slasher sequel See No Evil 2) to the downright awful (Tarantino inspired exploitation trash Dead Hooker In A Trunk. Rabid is possibly their worst film yet.
Set in the world of high fashion, Rabid 2019's central character is Rose (Laura Vandervoort) an aspiring designer hoping to get her work noticed by her boss, Günter (Mackenzie Gray. One night, while leaving an event, Rose is involved in an accident that leaves her face horribly disfigured; however, after volunteering for revolutionary stem cell treatment, Rose's natural beauty is restored, and better still, Günter chooses her designs for his latest show. Life would be perfect if it wasn't for Rose's strange hallucinations, her newfound hunger for blood, and the vicious tentacle that lives in her armpit.
Clumsy direction, gimmicky editing, an overlong running time, obnoxious characters, a ham-fisted tribute to Cronenberg's Dead Ringers, and weak make-up effects all contribute to a hellish viewing experience, but what made this film really unbearable for me were the fashionistas and the models, all of whom could have come straight out of cult comedy Zoolander (or worse still, Zoolander 2. If I thought for a minute that the Soskas were going for giggles, then I would probably think better of the film, but I don't think this is the case: any laughs seem to be purely unintentional. Günter is an embarrassingly bad caricature. Will Ferrell's Mugatu is positively normal by comparison. and the scene where Rose slashes at a dress with scissors to realise her boss's vision would be genius if this were a satire. But it's not.
I honestly think that the Soska's believe their own hype, but as the film descends into asinine zombie territory, it becomes clearer and clearer that the twins have bitten off way more than they can chew. The final scene, in which Rose discovers the true horror of her condition, is let down by more terrible make-up effects and the directors' misguided belief that they have crafted a truly shocking movie. The only thing that is shocking about this film is that it got made in the first place.
